Adjustments and Manipulation

Adjustment_2.jpg Adjustments, or manipulation as they're sometimes referred to, are the minor movement of vertebrae in the spine or any other joint.  The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae or joint(s) that have moved out of place.  The reason this happens can be from a number of various causes including normal daily activities, poor posture, repetitive movements like in sports or other activities, trauma such as a car crash or even sleeping.

When these vertebrae (or other joints) are out of place, it has an overall systemic effect from muscular pain, joint pain, limited range of motion, decreased function, compromise of nervous system function, etc.   By providing adjustments to these areas, we can help reduce pain, restore mobility and support the body's own ability to heal.

Manual Adjustments

An adjustment is often a pressure from the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to move a vertebrae back into place.  This happens with a quick movement and is often without discomfort.  You may hear a noise that sounds like you're cracking your knuckles referred to as joint cavitation - that is the release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint.

Overall, adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level.  When the body is in alignment, the body is able to respond and perform as it was meant to.

Gentle, Instrument-Assisted Adjustments

For those that may be uneasy about a manual adjustment or when a manual adjustment is contraindicated, we also provide instrument-assisted adjustments with an instrument called an Activator.  This instrument is a hand-held, spring-loaded device that helps guide movement into the joint(s).  These adjustments are also much more tolerable for patients with osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, arthritis and other chronic pain conditions.

Graston Technique

The Graston Technique is instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique.  This is a type of manual therapy that involves using stainless steel instruments to work the skin and target underlying soft tissues.  This method helps break down scar tissue, improve blood flow and enhance mobility by addressing fascial restrictions and muscle adhesions.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses specific points on the body to stimulate the energy in the body to help heal itself.  These acupuncture points are stimulated with the insertion of thin needles or with magnets, lasers or electric pulses.  Acupuncture aims to balance the body's energy, alleviate pain and treat various other health conditions.  We know everything works better when we feel good and acupuncture is often used together with other chiropractic therapies to help people feel better, faster.

Therapeutic exercise

Therapeutic exercise is designed to treat very specific areas of the body and to help with range of motion and flexibility.  You will do the exercise as part of your rehab and continue to do some of them at home so that you can accelerate your injury rehab.

Clinical-grade cold laser

Cold laser therapy helps the body to naturally heal itself by using low spectrum light to induce the body to release more energy.  It reduces pain and inflammation in the soft tissues and joints while promoting healing at the cellular level.
