Sports Injury

Diane and Tom Lehman on course

Professional sports figures are consistently reaching new heights in their professional careers.  With each passing year, new records are shattered and the human body is pushed to its limits and many seek out chiropractic to help them along!  In fact, nearly every professional sports team including those in the NHL, MLB, NFL and NBA have a team chiropractor.

Everyday athletes follow suit by pushing themselves harder, choosing more rigorous training patterns and taking their bodies to a new level.  Despite the meticulous care and training that athletes take, they experience musculoskeletal injuries.  This can be from a sudden and acute injury - like an ankle sprain or a tear in the knee from a sudden change in direction.  Or this can be from a repetitive use injury where the body is given too much load with too short of a recovery period - like with runner's knee, jumper's knee, IT band syndrome, plantar fasciitis/fasciosis, etc.

Chiropractors have specific training in evaluating and treating the injuries and ailments of athletes.

Dr. Smith has done extensive post-graduate training to become a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician.  With this extensive training, she has learned to diagnose and treat injured athletes more effectively.  In addition to treating athletic injuries, Dr. Smith is skilled in aiding the athlete in future injury prevention as well!

Diane and Jermichael Finley

The medical system is set up to see the body NOT as a whole but in smaller systems - this is evident with the model that has a specialist for every ailment (cardiologists for heart issues, endocrinologists for hormone-related issues, orthopedics for orthopedic surgery, rheumatologists for joint issues, gastroenterologists for gastrointestinal issues, dermatologists for skin issues, etc.).  The medical system as a whole is great for life threatening conditions but for overuse injuries or chronic pain, their solutions are often limited to a prescription or a referral to another provider who also has limited solutions.

You do not need a referral for chiropractic and chiropractors work to treat the body as an integrated system and work to see each patient as an individual.

It has been said that chiropractic most closely relates to the needs of the athlete because special attention is given to the spine, joints, muscles, tendons and nerves.  Chiropractic ensures that all pieces of the musculoskeletal system are working in harmony and in their healthiest, most natural state.                Picture: Dr. Smith treating NFL player Jermichael Finley

Professional athletes see such a great value in chiropractic treatment that they regularly have chiropractic wellness visits to prevent injuries and to keep them moving in top shape.  If you are an athlete, a weekend warrior or a desk jockey, chiropractic will allow you to reach peak performance or can just get you back to your activities and life without pain!
